Ironwood collaborated with a consultant team to design a landscape for the Amesbury Carriage Museum located in the town’s vibrant mill yard complex.

The museum entrance was designed to blend in with the surrounding mill yard landscape to create a welcoming area as well as additional programmable outdoor space for museum patrons and events. The new raised patio, covered with a heavy steel awning, accommodates event spillover, school group congregations, and employee lunch breaks. A wide granite stairway with wrought iron handrails provides a grand promenade to the front door, while matching brick walkways accommodate pedestrian access to the building. The curved walkways are both an accessible visitor route as well as a way for exhibits to be wheeled into the building. A granite block retaining wall creates an enlarged lawn area for additional gathering and demarcates the museum plaza from the rest of the mill yard.
