It’s leaf peeping season in New England: everyone’s favorite time to visit the stunning mountains of New Hampshire. And soon autumn foliage fans will have a new place to stay during their northern excursions.
Ironwood Design Group has teamed with HEB Engineers to create a landscape design for an exciting project ─ the historic Glen House grand hotel campus. Serving as a subconsultant, Ironwood developed an attractive and inviting design that was complimentary to hotel’s location ─ New Hampshire’s Great North Woods in the White Mountains National Forest.
Located in Green’s Gate, the hotel will be the fifth Glen House built on the Mount Washington Auto Road. Without fire suppression systems the four previous Glen Houses burned down, most recently in 1967. Five decades after the hotel’s unfortunate demise, the Mount Washington Summit Road Company hired BMA Architectural Group to design a new Glen House. The new structure will include an indoor swimming pool, a restaurant, meeting rooms, and 68 visitor rooms, many with stunning views of the Presidential mountain range. The building will include low impact design elements including geothermal wells for heating and cooling.
The hotel’s landscape design will feature picturesque native species, such as river birch and Canadian spruce, as well as a flowering meadow and ferns, affording a natural outdoor setting that blends seamlessly with the surrounding wilderness.
This exciting project began construction earlier in 2017. The completed Glen House hotel is expected to open for business in 2018 ─ in time for autumn foliage viewing!
