Province Lake | Effingham, NH

The ecosystem in Province Lake has been significantly degraded by high levels of pollutants from waterfront properties with unbuffered shorelines. As part of the Province Lake Watershed Management Plan, the Acton Wakefield Watersheds Alliance (AWWA) and the Province Lake Association (PLA) identified two residential properties on which to pilot green stormwater management projects that align with both the water quality goals of the Management Plan and the recreational goals of the property owners.

Ironwood worked with a team of engineers to design a buffered shoreline with planting and underdrainage to reduce and treat runoff before it enters the lake. The plans no only treat stormwater, but also create a more functional shoreline with terraced beaches and ramps to the shoreline.
