Norris Brook Restoration
The Swasey Parkway is a waterfront promenade park originally designed by the landscape architecture firm of Fredrick Law Olmsted and Associates, located in Exeter, New Hampshire adjacent to the Phillips Exeter Academy boathouse. Norris Brook, a small tributary, meanders through the Town of Exeter culminating in the brackish Squamscott River at Swasey Parkway. Due to poor maintenance practices and upstream development, the banks of the Norris Brook had become unstable and water quality had deteriorated. Because of its high visibility in Swasey Parkway, the riparian zone improvements to Norris Brook were designed to correct these problems and to provide an opportunity for public education. Ironwood worked closely with Town of Exeter staff and the Conservation Commission to develop a corrective and aesthetically pleasing design.
